Our son was put into an induced coma after experiencing an asthma attack.
I was in Nowra at the time and received a phone call about the situation.
I drove back to Yass and was kept updated during the drive.
Our son has been discharged since Monday, February 19 and all is well.
If the medical staff at Yass Hospital had not responded as quickly and effectively as they did, our son may not be here today.
The local ambulance station and Toll Air Ambulance helicopter must also be thanked for their assistance and for transporting our son to Canberra Hospital.
We are all very thankful for the work of our local medical staff, despite the limited resources they have at our local hospital.
They’re doing the best with what they’ve got. We are very lucky to have them.
Cheryl Scorgie, Yass
Can the Men’s Shed earn your return?
Most people in the Yass Valley will now be familiar with the ‘Return and Earn’ bottle and can recycling installation in the Woolworths Carpark in Yass.
This initiative of the NSW Government and of TOMRA Collection Solutions, Australia who are operating the service is a very welcome and timely initiative that will reduce pollution in our environment, reduce landfill load and also can reward individuals and organisations who are interested in helping our environment.
On behalf of the Yass Valley Men's Shed, I congratulate the NSW Government and TOMRA for this excellent improvement in waste management in our State.
Since Monday February 26, the Yass Valley Men's Shed has been included in the list of local entities to whom depositors can donate any refund they might be due.
All you have to do is to select the ‘Donate your refund’ option and direct your refund to the charity or community group of your choice.
We hope you might occasionally choose the Yass Valley Men's Shed to support. The Shed does lots of good things in Yass and local support is essential for us to keep operating effectively in the Yass Valley.
Wayne Stuart, Secretary, Yass Valley Men's Shed
Potential for economic activity and growth
I am excited after having attended the Samuel’s Run Tactical Training Centre, Collector community town hall held over the weekend. This project is a much-needed boost to our law enforcement, prisons, defence and security communities training capabilities.
Samuel’s Run cannot come quick enough, and we are lucky for it to be central to Canberra, Goulburn and Yass while only a few hours’ drive from Sydney.
I spent a good while at the community consultation to judge community feeling, and there the mood was positive from the locals who attended whilst I was there.
I asked Australian Target Systems if they were willing to minimise any impact on their immediate neighbours and they said they are open to designing their training activities to make it as easy for people as possible.
I went through the issues of capping acoustics, curtailing operations during fire bans, etc. and was left satisfied that Australian Target Systems hearts are in the right place.
Samuel’s Run has the potential to bring economic activity and growth into a regional area, and to ensure our kids have somewhere to work when they leave school rather than head for the big cities or interstate.
We need to support companies like Australian Target Systems who employ a large number of ex-servicemen and women, and who are willing to invest in our local communities. We should keep in mind that Paul Burns and crew are distinguished ex-military personnel. There is nothing sinister in their intentions.
Having worked in the tactical training industry for coming up to 15 years, I can vouch for Australian Target Systems integrity as key trusted suppliers into defence. They know what they are doing and I am sure they will make efforts to accommodate their neighbours.
