The Yass Magpies Rugby League Club has begun its 2018 campaign in the Canberra Region Rugby League on a strong note.

The club won two of its three trial games on Saturday, March 17 at Walker Park.
The first-grade men’s team beat Young Cherrypickers 16–12. The Girlpies also played Young and won by a big margin: 30–12.
The club said the girls “are looking good for their first game of the competition against Queanbeyan”.
The youth side put in a great effort in its tight 14–12 loss to the North Canberra Bears.
The club said the youth side had “a solid hitout in their trial against the North Canberra Bears”.
“The boys are ready for a big season this year,” the club said.
The first-grade side will play round one against Queanbeyan Blues on Thursday, April 5 at GIO Stadium.
The reserve grade will line up against the Blues at Seiffert Oval on Saturday, April 9 at 1.20pm.
The Girlpies will play beforehand at the same venue at 11am on the day.
Locals play for Raiders
Meanwhile, four players from the Magpies’ open women’s team played for the Canberra Raiders in Wagga Wagga on March 10. They played a trial match against the Riverina and lost 16–12.
