Club secretary, Jenene Forlonge, said that the club normally holds a fundraiser for CanAssist each year, but the decision to change and make it a Pink Day was made by the players.
“The last two years we’ve done yellow socks, and all of the money raised has gone to the CanAssist in Yass,” Ms Forlonge said.
“But for this year, this is a completely different kettle of fish.
“The players, believe it or not. [They said] ‘next year, can we do pink?’
“I was just going to do socks, but I’ve never been one to do things half-heartedly, so why not go all out?”
The players will wear their pink attire during their match against Woden, but Ms Forlonge said that she is also planning on having activities available for kids as well, to make it a proper family day out.
“I’m still trying to get all those sorts of things organised,” she said.
“I’ve been in touch with getting a jumping castle and some face paint for the kids that come along.”
The players will buy each of their own pink uniforms, and along with the donations made on the day, all the proceeds will go to Yass CanAssist and ‘Love for Annabelle’.
The latter of the two charities was founded to treat young Annabelle Potts, a four-year-old Canberran who was diagnosed in 2016 with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a highly aggressive and difficult to treat brain tumor found at the base of the brain.
Ms Forlonge said that, should the family be able to find time around Annabelle’s treatment, they would try to make an appearance on the day.
“Kathy’s hoping to come out for the day as well, with Annabelle,” Ms Forlonge said.
“But as Annabelle has to go back to Mexico around that time for treatment, they’re just not sure if it’ll be possible.”
The Pink Day will begin at 2pm on Saturday May 12 at Joe O’Connor Park. The Roos ask that visitors bring change for donations, and wear as much pink as possible.
Pink Yass Roos jerseys are $50 apiece, and interested parties should contact Jenene Forlonge on 0417 891 955.
