The event, which will run at 12pm–2pm, will be paying tribute to Mary Griffiths, the quiet lady who purchased Cooma Cottage from the previous resident-owner Jack Bourke and then donated the property for the nation.
Ms Griffith’s family will be represented at the anniversary.
The National Trust then helped restore the property, which took 18 years, with the property reopened for public entry 30 years on April 19.
Thursday, April 19, 2018 will also mark the 145th anniversary of Hamilton Hume’s death.
Susan Bell, chair of Cooma Cottage volunteer committee, said restoration was continuing today, care of a generous benefactor to the National Trust NSW and the work of many contractors and staff of the National Trust.
“The house is now 100 per cent volunteer run and we also thank the hundreds of volunteers in our community who have supported, and continue to support, the property and heritage generally through their their love of place and love of our history,” Ms Bell said.
She said members of Cooma Cottage and the National Trust also acknowledged Amatil CocaCola, who donated a sizable amount for its restoration.
Entry will be free on the day and there will be Rolls Royces visitors in the late morning and an ice-cream van onsite for the day.
