When I chose wall colours for our house years ago, I had so many of those trial size paint pots slapped all over the walls for weeks at a time.
Did it work? Yes, mostly, but it took a really long time.
I have some wonderful friends who have a real knack for combining colours easily.
Is this an innate skill? Probably, but I think (hope) it can be learned and there are now lots of web tools to help.
Colour Selection
I was looking at feature colour paint for a wall in a boring room. I found a site at Taubman’s where I could upload a photo that contained the colours I liked and it would tell me names of the colours.
This was a great way to choose colours as I knew that I liked this combination. I could also save these colours to a project, which I did.
However my colours were not right in that room so I have opted for colourful art work instead. That site saved hours of trial and errors.
I then played with walls of an internal courtyard that friends wanted to paint. This site worked a treat. I uploaded the picture of the courtyard, and then chose the colours I thought they might want to try.
Then it was a matter of selecting the walls that would be the same colour, and those of another.
Then the fun part was to paint. How easy was that?
Styleboarding
In the past, styleboarding a room was what I did.
I started with a picture that had the colours I liked and then added pictures of items I wanted included. My styleboarding tool is now Pinterest. It is so easy to grab pictures from the web and add them together in one place so a selection can be made.
If you go to Pinterest and search for lounge room styleboard, a nice example will come up. Then create your own site. It’s easy!
