A super effort by the U10’s Redbacks today with a resounding victory over the Woden Valley Wolves.
I’m extremely proud of the way the whole team played with again lots of passing and using space to create lots of chances on goal. Everyone put in and didn’t give up all game which is really good to see. The Players’ Player this week went to Nick, well done on an outstanding game.

The Redbacks had yet another great game this week against Canberra Grammar. With both teams being evenly matched, it was a tense game from the start.
The forwards, Johnathan Alley, Chase Condon, Brodie Doyle and Teale Robinson all worked fantastically together, with some great passes and teamwork, allowing Brodie to score two goals and one from Teale.
The midfielders Tobey Smith, Imogen Bradley, Luka Barac and Alerya Brayshaw had their work cut out for them with an equally strong defensive line from Grammar, but they kept the pressure on giving Grammar nowhere to move.
Our defensive line, Skye Pearce and Charlie Lyons did a tremendous job of pushing the ball back into possession, with speed and some well-placed powerful kicks.
While Grammar did have a few attempts at goal, our goalies Harrison Barnes and Luka Barac pushed back every one and didn’t let any through.
The Redbacks fought hard the entire game, right up to Alerya Brayshaw’s fantastic kick right into the back of the net, giving us our fourth goal, just on the final whistle.
It was by no means an easy game this week. But it forced us to think about our plays, increase our speed, work together and keep the pressure on at all times, to which everyone did tremendously.
It is a pleasure coaching this team each week and I look forward to our next game. This week’s Players Player goes to four recipients, Alerya Brayshaw, Brodie Doyle,Tobey Smith and Teale Robinson.

The U12 Redbacks took on Belwest Foxes Lions at home this round. With a couple of players away it was going to be a test of stamina for the team this week and they certainly didn’t disappoint.
Addy Hinds and Will Laggner showed some great teamwork working together to hold the back line against any attack from Belwest.
Will used his speed and ball skills to reach the ball first and return it back up the field to midfielders, Liam Barlow and Callum Robinson who both had a number of shots on goal with Cal able to get 2 past the keeper whilst Liam’s long shots were just a smidgen too high going over the crossbar.
The entire team played well with Riley Gibbs showing great strength with some outstanding throw-ins. Teigan Farnell, Kynan Leahy and Riley Gilbey played a good attacking game with great positioning and assertive tackles. We might need to do just a little more work on offside at training!
Jaydon Millar and Toby Russell worked well in both attack and defense taking on a number of larger opponents and coming up with the ball each time.
Tegan Davis worked tirelessly as defensive midfielder using her height to achieve a couple of great headers and pushing the ball through to the front line.
The Players’ Player of the game went to Sienna Gerstenberg who wore the keepers jersey for the entire game and made some brilliant saves reading the play and fearlessly scooping up the ball despite the crush of boots in the way!
Special thanks to Mikey Gerstenberg who helped out when we needed a extra sub. A great 2-1 win which moves the team to the top of the ladder.

The U13 Redbacks headed over to Harrison for our first competitive game of the season.
The team had a great training session on Wednesday and bought this form to the game with Luke Barlow scoring the opening goal in the first few minutes. From this point the Redbacks had control of the game.
The defense of Harrison Gus and Hunter was rock solid throughout the match. The score was 3-0 at halftime.
The second half saw a lift in intensity resulting in another six goals including three to Cameron Beresford. Jackson, Albie, Hayley and Caleb had there best games of the season so far. Final score 9-1 win.
This was a great team effort which was reflected in the Players’ Player votes with 13 players receiving votes.

The U14 Redbacks had a nervous start to the game with Woden Valley Wanderers breaking early. Yass had a couple of attempts at goals by Ronin Packham, Brodie Mott and Christopher Campbell but just couldn’t get it into the back of the nets. Unfortunately we finished the first half down 3-0.
The second half saw a more positive approach to the game.
Axel Healey, Luke Donovan, Robbie Jephcott, Brodie Mott and Aleks Gajic were on fire which finally saw Xavier Makin score our one goal.
Jack Paterson, Isaac Jordan, Xavier and Ethan Maher had their work cut out in the back line but managed a few off side calls for us in the second half. Cooper Thornely did exceptionally well in goalie with final score 7-1 to Woden.
The U14’s are still finding their feet but are stepping up and showing more cohesion and are improving against the quality opposition they are playing. The Players’ Player for Round Three is Ethen Maher.

Under 18s Redbacks 19/05/2018
Unfortunately the Under 18s Redbacks had a tough time against a well organised Marist team and went down 5-0.
Players player was Aidan Maddock who played a strong game in an unfamiliar position. Also stellar performances from Luke Finch and Megan Kemp.
Put it behind you Redbacks and move forward to the next game at St Eddie’s.
