In the 2018 season, the Yass Rams have developed a habit of falling painfully short in close matches. However, they bucked that trend on the weekend during their 32-28 triumph over Boorowa.

In previous matches against Taralga and Batemans Bay, the Rams had fallen three points and one point short respectively, with last minute scoring opportunities gone begging in both.
Yass left centre Andrew Hewitt believes that the win over Boorowa was indicative of the younger players beginning to develop their composure.
“We’ve definitely as a team started to create some composure at the right end of the game,” Hewitt said.
“We’ve been very unlucky in the previous close losses, but the young fellas are stepping up now with a bit of composure at the end of the game.”
What was most impressive about the Rams’ win last weekend was the fact that, following a two-point deficit at half time, they almost immediately conceded another try to fall nine points in arrears.
It was this ability to rebound from adversity which coach Lance Wellington has praised throughout the year, and Hewitt said it was evidence of the older players’ influence on the rest of the team.
“There’s a good senior player group there with a lot of games under their belt,” he said.
“Hopefully they are rubbing off on the young fellas.”
The Rams now sit at number four on the ladder, behind Taralga, Crookwell, and Jindabyne.
This is an excellent start for the side, particularly considering the improvement since last year. However, Hewitt said that the Rams had hoped to be even higher by this point in the season.
“We had hoped to be higher up the ladder,” he said.
“With a couple of close losses we have probably dropped a couple from where we need to be, but we’re building a good mid-season surge towards finals.”
This weekend, the Rams will take on Bungendore at Victoria Park.
“[It’s] always tough playing Bungendore,” Hewitt said.
“But it’s at home and hopefully we can get a really good crowd down there to get us over the line.”
The match will begin at 2:30pm on Saturday May 26.
