The BOM reported vigorous west to northwesterly winds ahead of a cold front which is predicted to move through south-east NSW later on Friday.
Winds are expected to ease before a second cold from on Saturday brings further bursts of strong winds.
Damaging winds averaging between 60 and 75km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible for parts of the Southern Tablelands.
The State Emergency Service advised that people should ensure vehicles are undercover or away from trees, secure loose items around the house, keep eight metres away from fallen power lines or fallen fences.
Fallen power lines can be reported to Ausgrid on 131 388 or Essential Energy on 132 080.
You can contact your local SES Unit on 132 500.
