Fire destroys Bookham home

Rural Fire Service and FRNSW have been kept busy over the past couple of days attending fires.

Yesterday about 3pm- 4pm a home just off the Hume Highway near Bookham erupted in flames.

Duty officer for Southern Tablelands Rural Fire Service Ian Kennerley said the residents of the grand old home were away working at the time.

“The male was working on the property away from the house and his partner was working off the property, Mr Kennerley said. “Their baby was being looked after by a relative at the time of the fire.

Rural Fire Service units from Bookham, Bowning, Boorowa Yass Support and the Fire an Rescue NSW crews from Yass and Gundagai were unable to save the home although an out building was saved.

Fire investigators were on scene on Friday to attempt to discover the cause of the house fire.

Mr Kennerley said they had no early indication as to what caused the fire.

Goulburn Mulwaree Support RFS brigade attended a small roadside fire on the Gurrundah Road on Thursday afternoon about 24 kilometres from town. The cause of this fire is unknown but Mr Kennerley will be investigating it later today.

About 6am on Friday  (today) Gundary RFS Brigade was called to a car fire on the side of Currawang Road about  a kilometre from the junction with the Braidwood Road.

The fire was in an apparently abandoned vehicle and was quickly extinguished.
