“A share in this funding from the NSW Government will be a great help in encouraging more people particularly locals to come and enjoy a day at the track,” Ms Fife said. “ I have only just heard about the grants so I will be getting straight onto investigating the possibilities and checking out the requirements.

Regional racing clubs can apply for a share in $400,000 for projects that build stronger links with local communities as part of the NSW Government’s new Back to the Track Regional Racing Grants.

Minister for Racing Paul Toole said grants of up to $20,000 would be awarded to innovative projects that focus on boosting local thoroughbred, harness or greyhound racing clubs.

“Racing clubs and racecourses across NSW form a key part of the social fabric in local communities,” Mr Toole said.

“This new initiative will make a real difference in strengthening links between local clubs and the communities they serve.

“We want country racing to thrive, attracting people who may never have been before and help ensure a sustainable future for country racing clubs.”

 Goulburn Greyhound Racing Club secretary Patrick Day said the funding would be very useful in bringing a greater understanding of the sport and the participants to the general public, through their attendance at the meetings.

 “The government has invested substantially in Goulburn track both for the greyhounds and the harness racing and both organisations could benefit from funding to help us boost racegoer numbers,” Mr Day said.

Clubs and tracks are encouraged to submit creative ideas to attract new events or education courses at racecourses.

This could include new racing events oriented toward new markets, sport and community events held at racecourses, and training and education programs to help people begin a career in the industry.

“We would also like to see ideas that support and build upon current race meetings, such as markets or small concerts, and encourage more people to these events,” Mr Toole said.
