The dinner was attended by 52 members and their guests with special representation from past district governor, Rowley Thompsett.
The outgoing president’s annual report on the activities of the club over the past 12 months noted that the club had contributed some 1800 service hours and raised more than $35,000 in that period.
Five new members were inducted through the year as well.
The satellite club at Murrumbateman has been very active in promoting Rotary in the Murrumbateman community with a very successful community expo which promoted various activities, events and other clubs in Murrumbateman. They have been regular attendees at the village markets.
The club, though the Glenlothian Foundation, has continued to support the Yass Education Foundation, the Music club through the Rag Holmes scholarships as well as pre school education in Yass and Murrumbateman to the tune of $15,000 this year alone.
Also during the year, the clubs have organised to install park benches in the dog park in Yass and the playground in Murrumbateman.
None of this would be feasible without the income from regular community markets held at St Augustine’s Hall on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month as well as the other fund raising events held throughout the year.
The Billy Cart Derby was once again a roaring success, and, with the support of the Yass Valley Council and the community, it will continue into the future.
Another regular feature is the Australia Day Breakfast held in Coronation Park. Despite the commitment to provide breakfast at no charge, the public continues to support us by donating to the club on the day.
Our exchange student from Brazil, Leo, is attending Yass High School and is a welcome visitor to all of our meetings.
His insights into life in Brazil, his time in Australia so far and his hopes for the future continues to demonstrate the value of the Global Youth Exchange Program run by Rotary throughout the world.
As well the club, with the assistance of Hall Rotary, continued to promote the Rotary Youth Leadership Award by sponsoring three young people from Yass to attend the annual live in week in Canberra.
The future is looking bright and I have, despite this being my second time as president of the club, enjoyed leading the club for the past year. I wish Sam Bucknell and his board all the best for the coming year.
