‘Ask for Angela’ launched in Sydney CBD on July 14 and now other police districts in the state, including Hume, are jumping on board to back the campaign.
Yass Police Inspector Alison Brennan will join the officers in charge of Goulburn and Southern Highlands at 10am on Tuesday July 31 at Goulburn Workers Club to officially launch the campaign in conjunction with their local liquor accords.
‘Ask for Angela’ started in the UK two years ago. Anyone in a licensed venue who feels unsafe can alert trained staff by ‘asking for Angela’ at the bar, a code phrase. They can then be taken to safety and the police can be contacted if potential offences are being committed.
Inspector Brennan said the Yass Liquor Accord would join Goulburn and the Southern Highlands in supporting the official launch of this campaign within the Hume Police District next week.
“It is such a great initiative, and a non-threatening way for people to seek assistance, whether they are feeling in imminent danger or just feeling that something isn't right,” she said.
“Whether they feel it necessary to contact police or not, this enables venues to ensure the immediate safety of their patrons.”
