On Tuesday August 7, Mr Kelly stopped by the childcare centre as part of Early Learning Matters Week.
The initiative aims to raise awareness among politicians and communities of the importance of long-term benefits of early learning.
Goodstart Yass centre director Denise Curtis had looked forward to welcoming Mr Kelly and to reinforce the Early Learning Matters Week message.
“Early learning matters because it’s in these early years before children turn five that children’s brains are growing the fastest and are wired to learn. It’s when the foundations for learning, health and behaviour throughout life are laid down,” Ms Curtis said.
According to Early Childhood CEO Samantha Page, Australia is still among the bottom third of developed countries for early learning attendance by three-year-olds and younger.
Goodstart advocacy manager John Cherry said families face too many barriers to accessing early learning and that politicians need to help with funding, encouragement and awareness.
