It’s women in league round and the Under 6 Black boys had their shirts turned inside out and pink socks pulled up high when they arrived at Walker Park to face their other Magpie mates, for the first time this season.
Cruz Dunley started the match with a big kick-off and it was obvious he has been practising. Cruz launched a monster kick in the first and then collected the kick-off in the last quarter, eyes locked on the ball as it soared through the air. Cruz had some really tough hit ups, always looking for a gap and driving with everything he had.
Zane Goode had all the moves today, teasing the opposition with ‘show and go’ manoeuvres as he sprinted up the field, ball tucked under his wing, looking for a break. Zane’s tackles were strong and intimidating, completely focused on stopping tries for his team.
Our player of the day, Harry Donoghue took a minute to warm up but when he did, he found his mojo big time. He had some speedy hit ups, edging closer to the try line each time before finally hitting the jackpot, not once but twice! What an amazing feeling, well done Harry.
Heath Wood played with guts and consistency, weaving his way forward, trying to outsmart the other Maggies and beat them to the line. Heath ducked his head and charged through the pack to put the ball down for some impressive points in the first.
Toby Waters copped some tough carriage running the ball forward. The opposition were bigger in size but Toby was stronger in heart. Toby’s fearless determination to take on the other team paid off twice, both times burrowing under their legs to put the ball down. Toby was awarded man of the match at the end of the game and took the pink ball with pride. Great work Tobes!
Ashton Curtis had his tackling game in fine form, putting a stop to any player that got within reach, once holding onto the waist of an opposition player and going along for the ride until they dropped.
Ashton had some solid hitups, utilising his step to pick the right time to drive forward.
Billy Buser, our tackle king, was a major danger to the other team and they worked hard to keep him under control as ripped them down left, right and centre. Billy wasn’t phased and palmed them away, running with them dragging behind him and a big grin on his face as he bulldozed his way toward the line, smashing down a massive three tries.
Our speeding dive machine, Lachlan Kesby meant business from the second the timer started, driving the ball forward into a sea of trouble and more often than not, coming out the other side with a couple more bruises and enough grunt left to finish the job and score. Lachy’s tackles were tough as nails, stripping legs from under players and grounding them.
Our boys are more united every week, have each other’s backs and are committed to working together to get the job done. They all have so much respect for their coach Beau and he for them, what a great team!
Final score: 40-40
Tries: Billy 3, Lachlan 2, Toby 2, Harry 2, Heath 1
The Onerwal LALC Pink Ball recipient was Toby Waters

KAVENEY EARTHWORKS UNDER 6 WHITE
Last Sunday was the local derby that saw the U6 Whites take on the Under 6 Blacks on a soggy Yass morning. Both teams showed great sportsmanship and played a cracking game, with a fitting 40 – all draw.
Travis Mann and Henry Gooley were impressive from the kick off, using their electric speed and stepping their way to a bag full of tries each. Both Travis and Henry backed this up helping Trae Douven who was a work horse in defence and attack before he was finally rewarded with a great running try.
Not having much game time last week, Mark Davis started the game well, providing some great tackles and a couple of great runs throughout the game. He linked up well with Logan Gray and Sam Masters who were impressive in attack and defence, both having some brilliant runs and showing great determination in defence. Logan was tireless in defence and very unlucky to not score a try.
Sam was rewarded with a great try and nearly had a double before being stopped by some very solid Blacks defence.
Helping the team in the middle was Troy Davis who had some great attacking runs and again put his fend to great use. Troy was vital in us getting out of our own end and backed this effort up in defence with some great tackles.
Izabella Blayden had a great game, scoring a wonderful length of the field try and as usual was a work horse in attack and defence, having multiple great runs and showing us how to tackle. Reese Flynn had her best game of the year and had some great attacking runs, unlucky not to come away with a try. Reese continues to be an enforcer in defence and she continues to improve with every game.
Our Player of the Day was Travis Mann who had his best game of the year. Travis continues to get better with every game and has improved out of sight since his first game this year. He was well deserving of the Onerwal LALC Pink Ball, well done Travis.

THE CAPITAL HIRE SKIPS UNDER 8 WHITE
Once again the Under 8 White team braved a cold Sunday morning to take on the West Belconnen Warriors.
Angus was our first receiver in the first half and did a fantastic job as did Tanae in the second half.
Despite the cold weather all the kids did some good runs with the ball and even though their fingers didn’t work properly they did have a go at tackling.
Dylan scored our only try and kicked his own conversion.
This week player of the day and the Onerwal LALC pink ball was awarded to Bryson. Bryson gives it his all every game. He is usually the first one up to tackle and he is always backing up his team mates. Well done Bryson.

PATEMAN POWER SOLUTIONS UNDER 9 BLACK
The Under 9 Black Magpies took on the Gungahlin Bulls Red team and played another strong team game to walk away winners of the day with a 36 – 14 scoreline.
Neve Luckie came out firing and was not only the first to cross the try line but also the second, racking up a double for the day. She has also grown in confidence and took on the first conversion attempt for the day which she nailed across the black dot like a pro. Neve was also right up there again in the tackle count coming in equal third. Well done Neve!
Sutherland Holliday was next across the line when he found a gap close the line and dived from dummy. Good thing he has the muscle to push through. His conversion attempt was successful and his usual strong and consistent defence seen him on top of the tackle count for the day.
Lachie Brown was next across the line and also converted his kick at goal. Lachie showed a great improvement in his defence today and his efforts did not go unnoticed taking away the Onerwal LALC Pink Ball for player of the game as awarded by the ref.
The next two tries to finish the game were from William Hall with some strong confident runs up the field with his nimble little feet that manage to evade the defence well. Great game Wilmy!
Liam Beeten put in a great effort for the day and also nailed his conversion across the black dot. Liam has really grown in confidence this season and is always a pleasure to watch.
Jack Jamieson was second in the tackle count for today. Jack always gets in there wherever he can to help out his team. He was also consistent in attack and made the last conversion for the day. We’ll miss you next week mate!
Declan Cooke was consistent in attack and defence and also kicked a conversion. Great work Deccy.
Logan Collins was also consistent in both attack and defence. It’s been great to have you back this year and watch you grow each week. The silent achiever!
Thanks to Brodie Poidevin Warden for backing up for us today.

PATEMAN POWER SOLUTIONS UNDER 9 WHITE
The Under 9 White team took on the Gunghalin Bulls Black and walked away winners in the 34-36 scoreline.
Jack Ryan was first to cross the line and also crossed for a second towards the end of the game. Jack converted his first try and came out on top of the tackle count for the day. Jack’s efforts never go unnoticed and today he was awarded with the Onerwal Pink Ball for player of the day. Great effort Jack.
Our little speedstar Jed Glover crossed for a hat trick today and converted his first try. This little pocket rocket has been such a welcome addition to the team and we are so happy he feels at home with us. Great work Jeddy!
George Foran was the other player who worked his way across the line for a well-deserved try after some good solid runs that were close, but didn’t quite make it. George can always be counted on to provide a strong and consistent effort and was second in defence for the day. George also converted his try. Great work mate.
Alex Bell had some good strong runs and put in a great defensive effort. Alex also converted a goal today. Great work Alex.
Fergus Green put in a great effort today and got a couple of good runs in. Great work supporting your team Fergus.
Brock Lenon made a few really good strong runs through the defence and made some great tackles too. It’s always great to watch you play Brock and I can’t wait for the day were you realise your full potential… you will be unstoppable!
Brodie Poidevin Warden made some great runs and a couple of great tackles too. Great effort today Brodie!
Thanks to Sutherland Holliday, Jack Jamieson and Liam Beeten for backing up today before your game. You all put in a strong defensive effort to help get your fellow team mates across the winning line.

FASSON UPHOLSTERY UNDER 17 GIRLS
The Under 17’s girls Magpies were at home for the last time in 2018 against the Queanbeyan Roos, a team that could spoil the girls’ charge to the finals.
The Magpies started enthusiastically in defence with Taylah Ladd, Jasmine Davis, Lia Gaspari and Geena Elliott very solid on the left side as they held the roos at bay in the early stages.
With a little more possession coming their way Geena Elliott scored the opening try after some good lead up work from Sam Poidevin, Tara McGrath- West and Sydney Harrison and the Magpies had a 4-0 lead.
The Roos tried to hit back immediately however Cassidy-Kaye Marks and Brooke Atkinson were not giving an inch as they stopped anything in front of them.
The Magpies were next to score when Taylor Butler finished off a backline raid and the girls went to an 8-0 lead.
The Magpies were full of running at this point as Hunter Ings was constantly menacing the Roos’ defence with her darting runs and solid defence.
Gabbie Davis scored back to back tries the second from a clever cross field kick by Sam Poidevin and the Magpies raced to a 16-0 lead.
The Roos were really having difficulty holding the rampaging magpies and a good try to Gabbie Davis and with the conversion of her own try Yass were in the lead 22- 0.
Abbey Yates was solid when she joined our right hand side. Teneal Atkinson was clever in her dummy half role as the Magpies pushed the throttle and after a great run by Taylah Ladd, Gabbie Davis crossed for another good try as the Magpies hit 26-0 at half time.
The Magpies returned after the break and were immediately into action with Sydney Harrison opening the scoring for a 30-0 lead.
The scoreboard continued to tick over as Sydney Harrison scored her second for the day and the Magpies were flying at 34-0. At this point Wayna Cuevas and Tayla Smith came on to take their part in the game and were immediately into the action.
The Magpies were playing mistake free open footy when Gabbie Davis scored a good try and with the conversion the girls were rolling along at 40-0.
By this stage the Roos were no match for the Magpies and following some good lead up work Gabbie Davis scored for a 44-0 lead.
As time wound down toward full time Gabbie Davis made a decisive run to score under the posts and with the conversion of her own try the game was stopped as Yass hit the 50-0 score line
The girls played the perfect game of football and their best game of the year as everyone contributed to the win which has now assured them of a semi-final spot in the coming weeks.
Coach Spider is proud of his girls in how far they have all come from the start of the year when it was not sure they would even have a team and he has received great assistance from Josh Hardy and Hollie Massey
Great effort girls!
