Showcasing the benefits of solar has been a part of these Field Days since its inception in 1979.
The technology has become so good now that it is completely viable to go totally off-grid if you want to, and Towards Tomorrow Energy will be exhibiting at this year’s Field Days and answering all your questions about how to achieve it.
“We basically show them everything they need to know about how to go off the grid. We do off-grid solar installations,” says Simon Duff.
“We have a lot of success at these field days”.

This will be their fourth visit, and what Simon likes about the Murrumbateman event is “It’s busy. There’s a lot of activity for kids; our kids come along,” all of whom are in primary school. They enjoy things like the sheep dog trials, “The tractor pulling is really good. There’s always a lot of good food. There’s a lot of unique stalls. You see a lot of different things.”
In terms of their expertise, “It is quite expensive to run mains power out to new blocks of land that are getting developed. So we come along and put a complete off-grid renewable energy solar system in. We’re monitoring, we run everyone through the design process. All the different products will be on display” he says.
They can show you how to control all your electrical appliances with your smart phone to make yours a smart home. They are also keen to help you learn all about the concept of going off-grid.
“People just want to know more.” One aspect of confusion that Simon can help clear up is the energy rebates.
“A lot of people thrive on education.” Some common inquiries include what the rebates are like, and whether there is also a rebate for off-grid systems. “Yes there is.” Simon illustrates.
“There’s a lot of misconceptions that we clear up with people.”
