The Greens have been committed to preserving values that Australians hold dear, including giving everyone a fair go, support for rural communities and education and opportunities for all. We advocate for a society where everyone is treated with equality and respect and where legislation and tax policy benefits society, not just the wealthy elites.
Our agriculture and food system is broken with big retailers benefiting at the cost of farmers and consumers. We must restore a sustainable relationship between producer and consumer and plan for a future that takes into account a drying landscape and recognises the value of biodiversity.
Our precious natural heritage treasures, such as the Great Barrier Reef and our local Superb Parrot, are not only vital to our identity as Australians but also earn valuable tourism income. We must recognise the extraordinary value of our delicate ecosystems, and defend them.
Keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees is essential if we want to hand to our children the same quality of life that our parents entrusted to us. Renewable energy makes sound economic sense. While the major parties continue to subsidise coal, the Greens have consistently been the only party to take global warming seriously.
