Amy Jolliffe and Jono Thompson were at the Ewe’N Me restaurant in Yass with their two daughters and two friends.
When the waitress came over, she said their bill of over $300 had been paid for by an anonymous person.
The generous donor’s only request was that they, “pay the gesture forward,” the waitress said.
The young couple was so amazed that they dropped $150 into the restaurant’s tip jar.
They’ve also decided to pay the gesture forward through ten random acts of kindness over the next six months.
“I just didn’t feel right, so I decided to pass on the kind act right there,” Mr Thompson said. “But when I got home, I told Amy, I wanted to make it go further.”
Ms Jolliffe said they’ll keep looking for opportunities to do the same thing for others.
The couple said it’s in a position to help others out around town. Their first random act of kindness will go towards getting groceries to those in need.
Mr Thompson said, they just “couldn’t believe it.”
“We’re only young, but doing really well for ourselves,” Thompson said.
Thompson said he did a few things when he was younger that he regrets. Like most younger teenagers, he got up to no good. However, since having kids he’s had a different outlook on life.
He said that for such a random act of kindness to happen to them was “amazing” and a reminder to do more for others.
Thompson said he tries to find work for people through his earth-moving company.
“I surround myself with good people and try to help other people out. Stuff comes back to you,” he said.
“Thank you,” the couple said.
