This will be my last column for 2018 and I would like to take the opportunity to thank the many people and organisations within our community that make it such a fabulous place to call home.

Since September, Yass Valley has hosted five major events: Irish & Celtic Music Festival, Sculptures in the Paddock, Gundaroo Music Festival, Murrumbateman Field Days and rounding them out, Classic Yass this upcoming weekend.
These events are community-generated ideas and, in the majority, are planned and run by volunteers and residents of Yass Valley. This is a truly outstanding achievement and all who put their hands up to help out should be publicly congratulated and acknowledged for their commitment.
These events, including the numerous events held throughout the year, take months of planning and I am sure the organisers are already madly evaluating this year’s event and jumping in to start planning for 2019.
If you are not already involved in any of the events in Yass Valley, I urge you to step forward and make your mark. As a community we need to support these events by attending, but more importantly, to ensure their existence we all need to put our hand up to volunteer.
And finally, with Australia Day Award nominations opening last week, now is the perfect time for our community, committees and organisations to publicly thank those that give of their time to ensure these events continue to be run and most importantly, flourish.
