Rory will be leaving school in the next few weeks and before he does, he wanted to let other people know how Ms Baskett’s free tutoring has helped him and his two sisters.
“You can see the difference from when I started,” he said. “More people need to know about it.”
The 78-year-old has been kind enough to tutor local students for so long that even Ms Baskett said she “can’t remember how many years it’s been”.
Not many things are free these days, but Ms Baskett is prepared to offer her time and knowledge for only a gold coin donation, out of her love of the subject.
In the years of tutoring, Ms Baskett has helped countless students, but, she said, “It’s not enough,” and wants to help more.
Ms Baskett has a degree in maths and her career was in computing and coding in Canberra. Today, she lives in Murrumbateman, where she offers her tutoring at the Murrumbateman Preschool on Monday evenings.
