White Ribbon is a not for profit organisation that works through a primary prevention approach in schools, workplaces and communities across Australia.
This year's theme is, “Together, we can end men's violence against women in our community.”
Police and the community will take to the streets together across Australia, marching to bring an end to violence against women. The White Ribbon campaign is now active in more than 60 countries.
Domestic and family violence is a crime that does not discriminate. It affects people from all walks of life across all communities. It’s a crime that continues to dominate police time, and there are still a vast number of incidents that go unreported and this must change. The NSW Police Force are urging anyone who experiences violence to come forward and report it. There is help, support and protection available.
The NSW Police Force have shown their commitment to White Ribbon by being recognised in 2017 as a ‘White Ribbon Workplace’, after undergoing a comprehensive accreditation program to help stop violence against women.
The internationally recognised program requires organisations be assessed against 15 criteria, including effective leadership, resource allocation, communication, human resources policy development, and training programs that foster a safer and more respectful workplace.
One woman a week is killed at the hands of a current or former partner, and one in two women have experienced sexual harassment. To date in Australia for 2018, the death toll has reached 61. There are several community events across the Hume Police District for White Ribbon Day. If you wish to be involved, please check the White Ribbon website for your local area.
