Yass cricket set for post-Christmas restart

Although the first round of cricket in 2019 was somewhat anticlimactic, with all three A and B grade matches being rained out, this coming weekend promises non-stop action for all local cricket lovers.

Saturday’s A and B grade action will be joined by C grade, who enjoyed byes last weekend and will be eager to resume their season.

The A and B grade action will kick off at Victoria Park on Saturday, with the hottest rivalry in the district set to continue.

The Yass Golf Club Snipers will take on the Yass Golf Club Piranhas, in a match which will decide who stands at the top of the ladder.

Currently first, with five wins and a single loss, the Piranhas stand to slip below the Snipers, who are currently second with four wins, one loss, and a draw, should they lose on Saturday.

Meanwhile, at Joe O’Connor Park, the Yass Bowling Club Pirates will take on the Gundaroo Goats.

Although they are ranked sixth, the Pirates look to be working their way back into form with Tom Parr (54) and Nick Pollack (46) guiding the reigning champions to a total of 7-155 last week.

At fourth, Gundaroo are the higher-ranked side, and come into the match with consistent form under its belt, so this will be a decisive clash.

The final match in A and B grade this weekend will feature the Bowning Buffaloes and the Dalton Dingos (third and fifth respectively), who will fight it out for a spot in the top four.

Bowning have been a consistently tough side this season, while the Dingos have run hot and cold, with some amazing performances mingled with some that were lacklustre.

Along with the exciting matchups that will take place in the highest grade this weekend, C grade will feature high-quality action.

The Murrumbateman Blues will take on the Yass Golf Club Taipans at Murrumbateman in a second-versus-third clash which will put pressure on the first ranked Binalong Bushrangers.

Meanwhile, the Bookham Bulls and Harden Hornets will face off in Bookham. These two teams last played on December 8, with Harden emerging victorious, a result which Bookham will no doubt look to avenge.
