The Kangaroo Valley Show is ready and raring to open on Friday and Saturday February 15 and 16 at Kangaroo Valley Showgrounds in Osborne Park on Moss Vale Road.
“It is a public holiday in Kangaroo Valley on Friday 15th February,” says the show’s publicity officer Karen Barker. This makes it “A highlight for the local school, so the kids get to go to the show all day Friday.”
One of the exciting features of the event is, organisers are hoping to break a world record for the number of people simultaneously tasting cheese.
“We are aiming for at least 700 people and have gained support in cheese donations from Bega, Bodalla and Unicorn cheese companies,” says organiser Kathy Harrington.
They’re hoping to break the Guinness World Record set last year when more than 560 people tasted cheese at Western Australia’s Margaret River Dairy Company.
Joining in the record attempt is free once you’ve got your show ticket and you’re there at the time of the attempt. It’s family friendly too.
“Children can be part of it as long as they’re prepared to taste cheese. Every participant will get three pieces of cheese in a little cardboard box, and ABC sports commentator Peter Wilkins will tell everyone when it’s time to start tasting.”

2019 will be the 134th running of this show, and there will be a huge variety of things to see, try, ride and even enter if you are keen.
For example, entry to the iron person, hay stacking, talent quest and dog high jump are all free with your show ticket this year, so head along and have a go.
“Local landscape artist Neville Connor is undertaking the art judging, which is not the easiest of jobs, all in the pavilion, show casing paintings, etchings and drawings and most [will be] for sale. Come and buy an original piece of art,” Karen encouraged.
Other things to participate are the new backyard poultry classes. These are designed “to attract the average chook owner rather than serious poultry owners.” That means there is now “something for every type of chook owner.”
Karen also pointed out there will be “Food stalls galore, including a local Kangaroo Valley produce stall,” plus camel rides which should be a great experience.
Also see the Insitu Inspiration Station with interesting stories from interesting local people covering everything from the local dairy industry to music royalty.
The “dunking tank will be a highlight on the Saturday evening with a line up of local identities from Mr Smee the headmaster of Kangaroo Valley Public School to Peter Thompson the local Friendly Inn publican.
“Money fundraised from this event is donated to a selection of locals in need.”
The finale of the show will be the rodeo.
