A total of 50 people working in the beef industry applied for the leadership program, and successful participants were those at the best stage of their careers to benefit from the experience, Angus Australia youth development officer Candice Liddle said.
The program includes a three-day intensive workshop in Sydney, from February 20-22. Participants will then be mentored for 12 months.
The workshop, led by industry experts, will cover topics ranging from business financials, to the beef supply chain, business networking and succession planning.
Mr Hunter has been an agent for six years and currently works for Agstock, based at the South Eastern Livestock Exchange in Yass. He previously worked for Landmark in Wagga Wagga.
He said he is excited to take part in the program.
“I’m looking forward to hearing from the speakers and meeting other people in the industry,” he said.
Mr Hunter said he hopes the leadership skills he learns will benefit his day-to-day job and clients.
“The Inaugural GenAngus Future Leaders Program will be an excellent experience for young Angus Australia members who are looking to expand their existing knowledge about the beef industry,” Ms Liddle said.
“The crop of young producers that have been selected for the GenAngus Future Leaders Program are an excellent group of representatives of young people in the beef industry, working towards developing their careers in the field,” she said.
Mr Hunter was congratulated by for the program’s sponsor, farm insurer Achmea, for his successful selection for the program.
