The incident occurred last night, Wednesday January 30, at about 10.25pm, on the Federal Highway near Sutton.
A fire took hold under the trailer of the vehicle which was carrying motor oil and paper, and the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
NSW Police reported that there had been oil spilled on the roadway.
Police and emergency services attended the scene.
The accident caused the southbound lanes of the highway to remain closed for several hours until early morning, Thursday January 31, traffic was diverted via the Old Federal Highway.
