The Canadian-Australian says her connection to the music today is not so much personal as it is about other people's reactions to her voice; "People close their eyes and think she (Karen) is in the room. They love the music and I want to keep it going," Price said.
It's as if the lyrics "Just like me, they long to be close to you" (Close to You, 1970) are in action in this hour-long cabaret set.
Price's velvety voice weaves the story of The Carpenters through 13 of their classics, including her favourites, Superstar, We've Only Just Begun and Only Yesterday.
Her persona and quick wit keep audiences entertained while reminiscing about both the happy and sad times the siblings, Karen and Richard Carpenter, experienced during their short but prolific musical career.
After the first set and an interval, Price likes to get everyone "dancing, singing along and having a good time", during the 'Superstars Celebration' of big hits by Stevie Wonder, ABBA, The Eagles, Whitney Houston, Shania Twain, and more.
The two-hour show, Remembering The Carpenters and Superstar Celebration, is on at the Boorowa Ex-Services and Citizens Club, Friday, March 29, from 8pm. Tickets $20 at the door. The audience is encouraged to enjoy a meal at the club before the show.
