Around fifty members joined together for the 20-year commemorative lunch at Yass Golf Club.
June Comins OAM, Lyn Butt and Lorraine Legge were recognised as life members and Ron Woodhill and Jack Kemp were remembered for the many years of support they have given to the club.
Yass Probus was founded on March 4, 1999 by notable community members including Chris Norwood, Jack Kemp and Alfred McCarthy from Yass Rotary and chairman of the District Probus Committee, Kim Turner, at the time.
Ron Woodhill was the club's first president, while Lynn Butt and Jack Kemp were the vice presidents.
Within a year, the club had enrolled over 100 members, having established itself as an active social club for retirees with a busy program of guest speakers and outings.
The first speaker on March 18, 1999 was John Taplin, a retired oil company executive, who spoke about 'black gold'. He was followed by Russ Whitehurst, an amateur fossil, rock and gem collector.
Today, the club continues to host interesting speakers and outings now head further afield in Australia and overseas.
The club meets at 10am on the third Thursday of every month (except January) at the Yass Soldiers Club. New members are welcome. Call Tony MacQuillan on 6226 2950.
