Mr Abbey was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a grade four brain tumour in January.
Behind the page is Doug Thorne who said the diagnosis was devastating news for Mr Abbey, his wife Ruth, their children, friends and anyone who knows him.
Mr Abbey had his first surgery on February 7, which removed 95 per cent of the tumour and then had six weeks of radiation/chemotherapy, Mr Thorne said.
"The tumour was kept at bay for a period of time but a more recent MRI has shown that the tumour has regrown to a size similar to that of the original one but in a new position," Mr Thorne said on the Go Fund Me page.
Mr Abbey had a second operation on July 4 to remove as much of the tumour as possible again and the family was optimistic, Mr Thorne said.
Mr Thorne described Mr Abbey as "one of the most caring, loving, thoughtful, generous and funny people."
He said Mr Abbey needed the community's support and that the funds would be used for his ongoing care and medical expenses.
"I ask if you could make a donation (big or small) to help during this difficult time," Mr Thorne said.
The page had raised $20,110 as of Monday afternoon.
