With 25,000 riders, it has been billed as the UK's biggest cycling event, and Pearce has long been interested in taking part. He was finally accepted this year, after being one of 80,000 applicants to enter the public ballot for a place.
Pearce will ride for the Palace for Life Foundation, which provides support for at-risk youths throughout South London.
"I think it's absolutely essential [work that the charity does]" Pearce said.
"They work with something like 13,000 young people throughout South London, which is the part of London that I'm from.
"They work with them on a range of things. They work with young people who have disabilities, they work with young people who are needing support in terms of getting trained up for apprenticeships, getting job skills ... they do fantastic work in this community."
The ride is 100 miles (160.1 kilometres), and it will start from the centre of London before travelling out to Surrey Hills, and back to The Mall in London.
Although he is somewhat daunted by the prospect of riding 100 miles at the age of 48, Pearce has been training hard along Dog Trap Road.
"It's been a number of years since I've gone anything like 100 miles," he said.
"I've been training diligently over the last few months, but training during winter is hard graft.
"I do a lot of training on Dog Trap Road, just basically from Yass down to Murrumbateman and back, I'll do that a few times ... that's about 32 kilometres, so you can imagine how many times you have to do that to get anywhere close to 160 kilometres."
Despite the challenges it will present, Pearce said he was "excited" for the ride to start on August 4.
Pearce will foot his own bills for travel to the UK, but he encouraged anybody interested to donate to the Palace for Life Foundation through his JustGiving page, which can be found at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/martyn-l-pearce.
