There have been triumphs and controversies, great seasons and hard years, but the club still exists and has done so continuously since that very first meeting took place on March 31 at Oddfellows Hall.
While other clubs have come and gone, some permanently, others to rise again as a different entity, the Yass club has always been there, struggling along.
This is what makes the club so special, being the oldest club still existence in the Canberra District. That is something nobody can ever take away from senior rugby league in this town.
To celebrate this remarkable achievement, a centenary dinner will be held at the Soldiers Club on July 27. Former players are coming from far and wide to take part in this significant event to mark the founding of this proud club. Many stories will no doubt be told and many old memories relived.
The night will witness the unveiling of nine Magpie legends from over the years who are considered the best of the best ever to pull on the Yass jersey.
Much debate has recently raged in local pubs and clubs on just who these nine will be and no doubt a few more discussions will take place after they are named.
Guest speaker is the incomparable Brian O'Connor who at previous Magpie events, has laid them in the isles with his unique storytelling style.
The night will also see the launch of the book 'Tales from Nest' by Ross Luff, which recounts the 100 years in detail, bringing the legends from the past into the present.
It covers the early days when huge crowds witnessed epic battles for the famed Massey Cup right up until more recent times including the memorable 2006 premiership victory which broke a 47-year first division drought for the club.
The day will begin with the Magpies home to old foes, Goulburn during the day at Walker Park before heading to the Soldiers Club for the night time celebrations.
It's an event that should not be missed for anybody that has ever been involved with the Magpies and all past players and officials are urged to get in and reserve your seat quickly.
Tickets can be purchased online until July 20 from eventbrite.com.au or contact Cazz at First National Real Estate for further details.
