Originally founded in 1919, the Magpies' first grade side took to the field in the club's original black and yellow.
After three defeats earlier in the day, in the league tag, Under 19s, and reserve grade divisions, the first graders were eager to finish the day on a high.
However, Goulburn had other plans. Boasting a team list which included several former NRL players, the Bulldogs were nearing top form and eager to make a statement.
Following the conclusion of the match, with the score at 62-10, Yass coach Cameron Hardy characterised the outcome as "disappointing".
"[Goulburn is] an awesome side," Hardy said.
"There was a lot of effort in what we did, but if you keep giving away penalties and making mistakes, it's going to cost you in the end. And it cost us today.
"We tried and tried, but we didn't try hard enough."
Despite the one-sided scoreline, the Magpies were not short of passion. The Bulldogs were unable to entirely brush the home team aside throughout the game, and a number of scuffles broke out as players Yass made it clear that they would not roll over.
"There's always going to be some [push and shove]," Hardy said.
"[Goulburn] took a bit of feeling into it and we knew it was coming. They're a very passionate side."
As the Magpies no longer have a chance of making finals, Hardy said he would look to blood some of the younger players in the club with an eye towards preparing for 2020.
"We have to build on something, and we'll probably try to build on next year and try to give some of these guys that are having a go, an early go," he said.
The road to the end of the season will get no easier for Yass, as the Magpies prepare to take on the top-ranked Tuggeranong Bushrangers this Saturday.
Tuggeranong has looked far from impervious this season, but Yass will need to find its best form to be in with a shot.
The match will begin from 3pm at Greenway on Saturday August 3.
