As part of Local Government Week (July 29 - August 4), Yass Valley Council has been hosting a range of activities for residents.
On Tuesday, Yass Montessori children got the chance to climb inside a council garbage truck, front end loader and grader.

"This is an opportunity for the kids to see the different types of machinery the council uses," Yass Valley Council director of engineering Stan Robb said.
Inside each of the vehicles, the children got to meet the council staff who operate them and ask questions.
"It's really good for the children to see what the council does in the community," Yass Montessori director Wendy Diggelmann said.
"A lot of them talk about the garbage truck but don't know where it goes.
"We also have a recycling program at the Montessori, so it's good for the children to see the next step of the process," Ms Diggelmann said.
Yass Montessori children will interact with the council again on Thursday when they meet a ranger and senior health officer.
The children will work with the ranger to find toy dogs that have been microchipped, while the health officer will help the children to wash their hands using a special blue light that highlights germs.
Yass Valley mayor Rowena Abbey said Local Government Week presents an opportunity to highlight the many ways in which the council is involved in the community.
"We have some great activities planned for all residents to get involved in," Cr Abbey said.
"The week will help us to move beyond the conversation of roads, rates and rubbish,"
"We want to use it to encourage our community to get involved, connect with our councillors and tour our facilities," Cr Abbey said.
Residents can tour the Yass Sewer Treatment Plant this Thursday, August 1 and join councillors for morning tea from 11am-12pm at Yass Library on Friday, August 2.
