The Yass Valley Support Rural Fire Brigade has received $900 to go towards new equipment that will help firefighters during the upcoming fire season.

The money was raised from a dumpling workshop held at Trader & Co. by John Wei in May.
A chef from Fuzhou in southern China, Mr Wei wanted to share his talent of making authentic jiaozi or dumplings with locals and raise money to help volunteer firefighters protect the community in addition.

There is nothing like the Rural Fire Service in China and Mr Wei said he couldn't believe it was volunteers who fought the fires. He was also shocked by the size and strength of bush fires in Australia.
The brigade's Captain James Alley and Deputy Captain Andrew O'Brien accepted the cheque.
"I think it's a fantastic idea," Mr Alley said.
They both would like to join his next cooking workshop.
Mr Wei wanted to hand the cheque over in person and waited until he arrived back in Yass from China last week.
His daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Tom O'Dea, and their son live in town and are the reason for his visit. Mr Wei will be here for the next three months and is planning on holding another workshop on making Chinese pork buns.
Trader & Co. co-owner Sophie Peer said she wanted everyone to know that the cafe is a space everyone can use: "If people want to do fundraisers here it's free, so come and get among it."
