Yann Buriet went missing after arriving in the park on August 16 but was found in the area of the Gunlom Falls carpark on Thursday.
The 31-year-old is being assessed for injuries, dehydration and heat exposure.
Police will also speak to him for information on his whereabouts over the past few days.
"This is a timely reminder for members of the public to make necessary plans when travelling outdoors," Superintendent Hege Burns.
"Always ensure you notify somebody of your travel plans, know your limits, and research the area prior to travel."
