The Book Week theme for 2019 was 'Reading is My Secret Power' and superheroes were a popular choice on Friday.
The school's librarian, Ev Turner, arrived at the morning assembly as Wonder Woman.
In true tradition, she told the school she had been called to a meeting of librarians and wouldn't make the Book Week parade.
However, there was a very important task Mrs Turner had to return to give to the teachers, also dressed as superheroes.
Each teacher was given a book by Mrs Turner and had to find a secret power within the pages before the parade.
After characters including a woolly mammoth, Little Red Riding Hood and a Dalek - which took months to make - paraded the playground, it was time for the teachers to share their secret powers.
Mt Carmel principal Michael Green told the students he found "A vast, versatile and vibrant vocabulary!"
He said Book Week was an important part of the curriculum.
"Book Week fires their imagination, rekindles their interest in literature and the children get excited about being in character," Mr Green said.
Ahead of Book Week, the students had been set their own challenge to create a display on a book shortlisted from the Children's Book Council of Australia awards.
Inside the library on Friday was Batman's Batcave and Superman's telephone box, among others for parents, carers and the community to explore.
The students were also visited by Here Comes Stinkbug author Tohby Riddle during Book Week.

He ran writing and illustrating workshops with all of the students and signed books for the library.
"We were very lucky he was available," Mr Green said.
