Running until October 10, there will be around 5000 events in more than 80 countries to celebrate space exploration and promote space education.
One of those events will be happening right here in Yass next Thursday, the last day of the celebrations.
Astrophysicist Dr Fiona Panther will speak at Trader & Co, Yass from 6.30pm about her journey from a small English country town to working at the forefront of Australian space research.
The town's very own space company, Cingulan Space, has organised the event to give everyone the chance to find out about a career in the industry and learn about the future of space.
Dr Panther will share the different career pathways that exist in space, which may be more varied than you think, Cingulan Space owner Keith Rosario said.
Cingulan Space has been active in promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in local schools.
Mr Rosario even enlisted the help of graphic design students at Yass High School to make posters for the event.
