With 150 juniors and over 50 adults, Yass F.C. publicity officer, Ingrid Davis, is looking forward to what she expects will be a "more social [competition], with more emphasis on fun."
While the players who take part in the winter season undoubtedly love the sport, the highly competitive nature of the game is not always for everyone.
This is why, Davis said, summer soccer offers a suitable alternative for those who enjoy playing soccer without the intensity of a formal competition.
"It is for the first timers and for those who want to try it out and are considering playing winter soccer, and for those who can't get enough," Davis said.
"Because all games are played at Walker Park on a Friday night, there's no travel [to Canberra] and things like that. It's more of a social thing with the canteen running, most families stay and watch other games."
The juniors are divided into three age groups: the kindergarten to year two division (with eight teams registered), year three to year six (with six teams), high school (four teams), and the seniors have six teams.
Summer soccer is an opportunity for players and committee members alike to relax and come together.
Along with the regulars from the club who play every year, there will also be some new additions.
The most noteworthy new participants are the Yass Magpies' Women's Open Tackle team, who recently won the Katrina Fanning Shield grand final, who Davis said have joined "just to have a bit of fun."
Registrations for the season have closed, but the club wishes to encourage any interested or potential volunteers to come down and help out around the grounds on a Friday night.
The Yass Soccer Club also thanked its sponsors for their continued support in holding the event.
