Art State gets underway in Tamworth NSW in five weeks' time, running from October 31 to November 3. Art State is a four year program presented by Regional Arts NSW. This will be the third Art State Conference since funding was announced by the NSW Minister for the Arts Don Harwin in 2017. Previous conferences were held in Lismore and Bathurst.

The conference themes for this year are 'On Country - In Country' and 'Arts in the Age of Uncertainty'. Keynote speakers from across Australia and overseas will be presenting including Emma Hogg (UK) of WildWorks, who specialise in landscape-based theatre; artist and storyteller of Haida ancestry Patrick Shannon (Canada) who tackles important First Nations topics. I am really looking forward to also hearing from Cathie Craigie, a Gamilaroi and Anaiwon woman who has worked in media and the arts for over 20 years, and David Leha of Kamilaroi and Tongan descent (Radical Son).
Art State is more than a conference, with an arts program that showcases the host region. This year, creatives from north-western NSW will be presented in a power packed program of visual arts, music and theatre. Tamworth is well known as a leading centre in textiles and this year's program will see significant textile exhibitions in the visual arts program. These events always offer free programs scattered across the conference so when you need a break there's always somewhere to go to chill in a creative environment.
