The fire became alight about 4am on Wednesday morning.
Fire and Rescue NSW Station 511 Yass and three Rural Fire Service brigades are on scene.
The pile is expected to burn for some time, NSW Rural Fire Service operational officer for the Southern Tablelands, Lachlan Gilchrist, said.
The fire is showing as 'being controlled' on the Fires Near Me app on Black Range Road, Yass.
There are no concerns of the fire becoming out of control, Mr Gilchrist said.
"It's well-contained, fortunately," he said.
A total fire ban is in place in the Yass Valley on Wednesday, with the fire danger rating very high.
