In the last few seasons, the Yass Bowling Club Pirates have made a habit of getting off to slow starts.

They have followed the same trend in 2019/20, but their three-loss streak came to a startling halt on Saturday, as the Pirates crushed the Bowning Buffaloes by 146 runs.
"It's been a bit of a slow start so it's good to get on the board," Pirates captain Brad Wylie said.
The Pirates won the toss and elected to bat first on a good Victoria Park wicket.
The opening pair of Wylie and Shaun Davis decided to take the attack to the Buffaloes, and by the drinks break, had amassed 100 runs for the loss of one wicket.
"We're a bit light-on in the batting stakes, so me and Shaun Davis, who doesn't normally open, we played with a bit of freedom," Wylie said.
While Davis' wicket was followed by several more, including that of Wylie for 62, Andrew Holgate came in and steadied the ship towards the end of the innings, and his 42 not out was crucial as the Pirates posted a total of 7-229.
While 230 is a daunting enough chase for most teams, the Pirates have been among the runs this season and still struggled for wins.
Indeed, though the Pirates currently sit sixth on the ladder, they have scored 563 runs for the year. This is the fourth-most for any team in the division, and only one run behind the Yass Golf Club Cobras, who are third.
But they have also conceded 520 runs, which is again the fourth-most of any team.
This, Wylie said, is because the Pirates have struggled to field effectively due to consistently low player numbers.
"We've had trouble getting numbers, we only had 10 again on the weekend, played with nine on the week before," he said.
This makes the Pirates' effort all the more impressive in the second innings, as they bowled the Buffaloes out for 83 in their 26 overs.
"Our normal opening bowler, Tom Parr, was away, but Holgate took early wickets," Wylie said.
"We knew once we got a few of their batsmen out, we were home."
The win sees the Pirates climb one spot to sixth on the ladder, and their next opponents will be the second-ranked Dalton Dingos.
But first will come a bye this weekend, which will give players the opportunity to rest and recuperate ahead of their next important clash, which will take place on November 30 at Dalton Oval.
Wylie hopes to repeat the pattern of seasons gone past, in which the Pirates have proven almost unstoppable once they find some good form late in the year.
"A win might get the boys keen now," Wylie said.
"It's just about finding a bit of form and then we go from there."
While the Pirates will enjoy a bye, this weekend A and B Grade fixtures will see the Bowning Buffaloes play the Dalton Dingos in Bowning, the Yass Golf Club Cobras play the Murrumbateman Blues at Victoria Park, and the Gundaroo Goats take on the Boorowa Crocs in Gundaroo. All matches begin from 12.30pm on Saturday, November 23.
