The NSW RFS will continue to monitor a haystack fire in Binalong and a bush fire in Fairlight near the ACT border on Wednesday night and Thursday.
Multiple triple zero calls were made about 11.10am on Wednesday, reporting sightings of smoke and fire on Lagoons Road in Binalong.
The hay was well alight when firefighters arrived on scene at the rural property.
Binalong, Kangiara, Yass Valley Support and Galong Rural Fire Brigades attended the fire.
It's believed the fire was caused by combustion, NSW Rural Fire Service operational officer for the Southern Tablelands, Lachlan Gilchrist, said.
"At this stage, the fire is contained, but they'll supervise it tonight and tomorrow, especially because of the conditions," he said.
Around the same time on Wednesday, triple zero calls were made to report a bush fire on Two Sticks Road in Fairlight.
The fire burnt about one hectare of scrub but has since been contained, Mr Gilchrist said.
ACT Fire and Rescue and Fairlight Rural Fire Brigade attended the fire and will return tonight and Thursday morning to stop it from reigniting, Mr Gilchrist said.
The temperature is set to soar to 39 degrees and winds could reach 35 kilometres per hour on Thursday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
A total fire ban is in place until midnight on Thursday.
During a total fire ban, you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause a fire.
Mr Gilchrist warned Yass Valley residents not to be complacent.
"They should be highly alert. A severe fire danger rating means any fires would be very difficult to control and would move quickly. People should be aware of what's going on in their area," he said.
"We only have to look to the north of the state to see the kinds of challenges ahead of us."
Remember, if you see a fire without an appliance in attendance call triple zero (000).
