The 17-year-old has been named in the Australian junior women's squad for the second year running.

The youngster was thrilled to make the cut.

"It's definitely a little bit overwhelming to see your name on the list at times," she said.

Lougheed, who toured Thailand last year, is excited by the prospect of representing her country again.

But she admits it's a waiting game to see what will happen with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many international events are subject to change or cancellation.

But the teenager is not fazed by the situation.

"No, I'm not really that worried, just going to wait it out," she said.

Lougheed said there might be opportunities for the women's team to play in Australia and New Zealand, depending on what happens with the border restrictions.

The volleyballer hasn't played a match since the Seaside Tournament in early March.

She said she was considering playing some beach volleyball to keep up her skills.

Lougheed said she was grateful to her mum and dad, Paul and Jacinta, for their support.

She also thanked the Warrnambool Volleyball Association and South West Academy of Sport.

The young gun is following a SWAS program as well as an Australian Institute of Sport volleyball essentials program.

Part of her training at home involves shoulder work which Lougheed said was essential for the sport.

"If you haven't got the right hitting technique, it can cause repetitive strain injuries," she said.
