The South Coast Beef School Steer Spectacular is on again for 2021 with some exciting changes to add to the competition.
This year there will be two sections, the Manildra School Championship, renamed but with the same elements as 2020 and a new second section, the Open School Challenge.
Following the success of last year's heavily restricted "live streamed" event, South Coast Beef is keen to offer a fully competitive event for 2021.
This COVID-19 safe event will be held on Wednesday, May 5 at the Nowra Showground, currently being upgraded to cater for more cattle and participants.
This year, will be a the one-day only event and the program will include all the competitions the event is known for, including the led steers, and parading, junior judging and herdsman competitions.
Support from the South Coast Register has assisted in obtaining enough donated steers to provide all interested schools with the opportunity to participate.
Currently 14 schools and 28 steers have been confirmed as competing across the two sections.
The Manildra School Championship for light and medium weight steers is conducted across three events - led steer, progress reports and a carcass competition.
This section is fully subscribed.
The new Open School Challenge, which features a led steer and carcass events only, is still receiving entries until Thursday, April 8.
It is open to schools from any region and in this section steers can be fed any ration to meet the market requirements for light, medium or heavy weight carcasses.
A number of local Shoalhaven schools will be competing with regional schools from southern Sydney, the Highlands, Yass, Queanbeyan, Batemans Bay, Narooma and Braidwood just to name a few.
Competing schools are required to feed their steers throughout the first school term in preparation for the live steer judging on May 5 at Nowra and the carcass judging on Saturday, May 8.
