* NSW has recorded its highest daily COVID-19 case tally after 172 people tested positive for the virus in the 24 hours to 8pm on Monday, with 79 cases active in the community for all or part of their infectious period.

* NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has promised to provide a roadmap for restrictions after July 30, but has acknowledged the case numbers are not where they need to be for lockdown to lift.

* Victoria will come out of its fifth lockdown at 11.59pm on Tuesday, as stay-home orders and the five-kilometre travel limit are scrapped, however Victorians won't be able to have visitors to their homes and masks remain compulsory indoors and outdoors.

* Victoria has tightened its border restrictions with NSW. Wagga Wagga, Hay Shire, Lockhart Shire and Murrumbidgee councils will no longer be included in the cross-border bubble from 11:59pm Tuesday.

* South Australia will end its COVID-19 lockdown at one minute past midnight on Wednesday after reporting no new virus infections. Some restrictions will remain, including masks in high-risk settings and density requirements.

* Another breach has placed two unvaccinated hospital workers at risk of infection in Western Australia, after three crew members of the Darya Krishna bulk carrier tested positive and were moved from the ship to Perth's Fiona Stanley Hospital.

* Queensland authorities say a returned traveller, who tested positive for COVID-19 on the Gold Coast, caught the virus in hotel quarantine in Brisbane.

* A pair of positive virus cases that caused an outbreak scare in Queensland face a combined total of more than $13,000 in fines for breaking public health directions.

* An unvaccinated resident of a Sydney disability group home has contracted COVID-19, with authorities scrambling to test everyone at the Lakemba respite centre.

* There have been 11,396,784 doses administered in the national COVID-19 vaccination rollout up to Monday, including 185,337 in the previous 24 hours.

* Of the total, 6,414,568 have been administered by the Commonwealth (an increase of 107,525 in the previous 24 hours).

* 5,909,489 have been issued in primary care (+103,516) and 505,079 in aged and disability facilities (+4009).

* 4,982,216 have been administered by the states and territories, including 77,812 in the previous 24 hours.

* 1,553,105 have been administered in Victoria (+23,273), 1,370,506 in NSW (+24,859), 862,398 in Queensland (+10,212), 462,044 in Western Australia (+7439), 365,814 in South Australia (+6331), 155,492 in Tasmania (+2039), 127,438 in the ACT (+2249) and 85,419 in the NT (+1410).

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Australia reported 184 local cases on Tuesday, July 27. (Three ship crew members tested positive in WA, but one of those will be included in tomorrow's count)

* There were four new overseas-acquired cases in hotel quarantine.

* The national death toll is 920: Victoria 820, NSW 66, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 7, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).
