The artwork 'At The Going Down of Sun' is set in Gallipoli when the last post is played.

The Year 7 student submitted the painting under the 'Classroom Showcase' education program at Australian War Memorial.

Yass High School Deputy Principal Ruth Riach said that Bethany took inspiration from the art she saw at the Australian War Memorial as well as her father Clint's time served in the Army.

"Bethany's mother Makenna encouraged her to create an artwork and Bethany then contacted the War Memorial, explained why she had created the work, and that she would like to donate it to the War Memorial to inspire other kids who may have family members who have served," she said.

"They couldn't physically accept the painting but asked Bethany to send in some photos and they published them on their website. The Memorial recently reached out to Bethany again, asking if they could use it on social media as part of their engagement with schools during the current lockdown."

The Australian War Memorial's social media post states that her father joined the army in 2002 was in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and he served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He left the Army in 2010.

"He is very proud of what he did overseas and I am very proud of him as well," she was quoted as saying.

"He has lost a few of his friends in the war and also at home after the war, so I wanted to paint something that shows the sacrifice that a lot of soldiers and their families have made.

"I hope my painting might inspire other kids whose parents are in the military to express themselves by painting or drawing or writing."
