NSW has recorded another daily high of 1599 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24-hour reporting period and a further eight deaths.

Of the 1,599 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 490 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD):
- 444 are from Western Sydney
- 192 are from Sydney
- 177 are from South Eastern Sydney
- 94 are from Nepean Blue Mountains
- 37 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven
- 57 are from Northern Sydney
- 27 are from Central Coast
- 16 are from Western NSW
- 10 are from Hunter New England
- 13 are from Far West NSW
- Two are from Southern NSW
- Seven are in correctional settings and 30 cases are yet to be assigned.
Sadly, eight people have died in the reporting period.
None of the deceased were vaccinated and they all had underlying health conditions.
Three were aged in their 80s, two in their 70s and one each aged in the 50s, 40s and 30s.
NSW Health's Dr Jeremy McAnulty said there were more than 1100 people hospitalised because of the virus with 221 people in intensive care and 94 requiring ventilation.
There were more than 114,000 tests conducted in the reporting period.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the state had now administered eight million vaccinations, including 114,000 jabs yesterday.
More than 77 per cent of the state's over-16 population has now received their first dose. More than 44 per cent are fully vaccinated.
Of the 10 cases in the Hunter New England Local Health District, five were from Lake Macquarie, four from Newcastle and one from Port Stephens.
Six cases were infectious in the community. Seven were linked to known exposures or family clusters, while three remain under investigation.
The Western NSW Local Health District (LHD) has recorded its lowest number of cases in one reporting period in almost a month.
Sixteen new cases were recorded up to 8pm on Friday night.
Of those cases, 12 were in Dubbo and four were in Bathurst.
Those numbers take the total number for the Western NSW LHD to 952 cases.
While there was a drop for Western, the numbers spiked in the Far West.
The Far West recorded 13 new cases in the reporting period, with 10 in Broken Hill and three in Wilcannia.
NSW Health's ongoing sewage surveillance program has detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in a number of locations around the state Including:
- Byron Bay and Bangalow treatment plants in northern NSW
- Jindabyne, Harden, Moruya and Yass sewage treatment plants in southern NSW
- Port Macquarie treatment plant in Mid North Coast
- Trangie treatment plant in western NSW
- And the Young treatment plant
"We've not identified recent cases in these locations so again, urging anyone in these locations to be particularly aware of COVID symptoms and come forward for testing at the slightest of symptoms," deputy chief health officer Jeremy McAnulty said.
Saturday's COVID-19 press conference was the second last before they are discontinued.
After revealing 1542 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, the premier announced the daily updates would no longer be held beyond Sunday.
