The 66-year-old man was found deceased on the kitchen floor of his Marsden Street house by a family member yesterday, Wednesday November 7.
He had suffered a number of injuries to his head and upper body.
Police from Cootamundra Local Area Command responded to the incident and secured a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensics officers.
A canvass of the surrounding neighbourhood was carried out to determine whether anyone had seen or heard anything suspicious.
The man’s body was taken to Glebe morgue in Sydney for post mortem examination.
Local detectives are being assisted by investigators from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad as they continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
