While the people of Yass Valley are getting into the Christmas spirit, Jeff Spackman is heartbroken he won’t be able to put up his display.
For years the Yass man has arguably had the most impressive light display in town.
This year the nativity scene, Santa and his elves won’t be going up.
“I’m just not healthy enough to be up until midnight every night,” he said.
Mr Spackman, who is currently on oxygen after his heart stopped earlier this year, isn’t able to maintain the light display that brought hundreds of people to Cooks Hill Road every year.
“I couldn’t look after it,” he said. “It’s not just a matter of putting it up and forgetting about it.”
It usually takes him two solid days to put up the lights and statues, not to mention the time he spends dressed as Santa giving out lollies to families that visit.
“I don’t know who’s going to be more disappointed, me or the kids.”
Mr Spackman has spent more than $40,000 buying and building the figurines and lights that will now stay in storage.
He plans to sell his decorations one day, but it might take him some time to part with something that has given him so much joy over the years.
