The Fireball Fencing Dance and Auction is billed for next Saturday to raise money for volunteer group BlazeAid.
BlazeAid is in the region to rebuild fences and relies on donations and volunteers.
Yass dynamos Sue Gaffney and Cathy Cooke saw a need they could help fill.
“We heard that there were a lot of people wanting to help BlazeAid and Cathy Cooke and myself said ‘lets do something’,” Ms Gaffney said.
“It’s a fun night to raise money for a worthy cause.”
She said farmers were the backbone of any country town and it would be great for people in town to get together to support them – “so they know people are behind them”.
The pair have put together the evening quickly so that it is still fresh in people’s minds.
The basics have been worked out and they are confident it will all come together on the night.
“We’re going to make it up as we go along,” Ms Gaffney laughed on Wednesday.
The organisers were still looking for support from local individuals and businesses to donate items for the auction.
“We’d love donations of auctionable items.”
Ms Gaffney said they’d “be very happy to wrap our little arms around and hug” anyone who would like to donate.
There would also be a raffle and other prizes given away on the night.
The organisers said they would be delighted whether they had 100 people or 300 people turn up on the night.
Ryan Cassidy and the (ITALICS) Bulls for sale (END ITALICS) band will keep the crowd entertained throughout the evening.
“It’s a fun way to raise money… instead of cooking cakes and having a cake stall,” Ms Gaffney said.
BlazeAid volunteers arrived in Bookham this week and fencing teams will start work on Monday.
An evening not to be missed!
The Fire Ball is at the Soldiers Club on Saturday February 3 at 8pm. A light supper will be provided at 10pm.
Tickets are $30 each or $50 for a couple and available on the night at the door. No booking required – just turn up!
All proceeds to volunteer fencing group BlazeAid.
