Four units from the Rural Fire Service and four private units were called to the blaze at about 2pm.
The grass and timber fire burnt out of control for about an hour and destroyed around two hectares of land.
RFS superintendent Peter Dyce said the fire had the potential to be much worse than it was.
“This one could have been nasty… it was close to heavy timber and if it had got into that we would have been in real trouble.”
Once the fire was contained it took about two to three hours of mopping up before crews were able to leave.
Another fire broke out later in the afternoon at a property called ‘Brooklands’ on Wargeila Road. It was also caused by a lightning strike and one to two hectares of land was burnt.
Four units from the Kangiara Brigade were called to the blaze but it was brought under control quickly and crews had left after just two hours.
The Yass Valley is facing more scorching weather, with the next five days predicted to be upwards of 38 degrees Celsius.
