Well done, Karan Gabriel.
The Yass Tribune plays a vital part in the daily life of our community.
For example, the paper dated March 26 gave front page headlines to major refurbishment of the Yass District Hospital and to hope for Mount Carmel High School.
Inside was detailed coverage of the Yass Relay for Life and the community support for a local who was diagnosed with breast cancer.
But it was page 13 before we read of the award to our Yass Tribune for "editorial leadership and community involvement".
The EC Sommerlad Memorial Award is presented annually by the Country Press Association and the Tribune won this year from the second placed Daily Advertiser of Wagga Wagga.
The award is a tribute to our editor.
I was therefore saddened to hear that the editor of our paper had resigned.
Karan Gabriel has given that editorial leadership and she has been the guide and mentor to her staff as the paper provided news and support for our community organisations and the residents of Yass and the District.
Congratulations Karan on your leadership which won recognition for the Yass Tribune and thank you for your contribution to our community over the past four years.
We wish you well as you relinquish the well worn editor’s chair.
